Frequently Asked Questions
Can I leave my BOAT MATE® in the water all boating season?
- Absolutely! Attach it to the dock and simply remove it at the end of the season. A helpful tip to extend its life is to give it a wipe down when needed throughout the season.
How much do I inflate the Boat Mate®?
- We recommend inflating your Boat Mate® between 1-2 psi. You will want to allow some room for expansion for when temperatures rise, (you should be able to depress the BOAT MATE® approximately 1/2 inch with your thumb.) If you use the pump supplied, 100 manual pumps should inflate the Boat Mate® perfectly.
What size of boats can be used with the BOAT MATE®?
- The Boat Mate® will protect watercraft up to 24' long with a single bumper. For larger applications, use 2 BOAT MATES® connected end to end with the stainless steel D rings.
How do I clean the bumper?
- Lukewarm water and a mild detergent is all you need with a soft cloth.
What happens if I get a hole in my BOAT MATE®?
- Each BOAT MATE® comes with a repair patch if it happens to accidentally tear.
Is the BOAT MATE® safe to step on?
- BOAT MATE® is not intended to use as a step and we've indicated that by putting a "No Step" symbol on each end for everyone's safety.
Can BOAT MATE® be used in salt water?
- Yes, however we recommend cleaning monthly to protect it from any harsh elements.
Does the BOAT MATE® have a cover?
- No, we have found that a cover or “sock” actually accumulates dirt and debris and can end up scratching your boat.
Is there a specific way to moor or tie up the BOAT MATE®?
- For best results, and to prevent stress on the D-Ring patches, the Boat Mate® ropes must be perpendicular to the boat mate and dock. Do not attach any ropes at less than a 90 degree angle. (Anything less will put an unnecessary strain on the D-Ring connection and possible cause detachment).
